1. From Naples to Capri by Tour

Capri on a beautiful summer's day

For a hassle-free experience, consider the Capri and Blue Grotto Day Tour from Naples or Sorrento. This seven-hour excursion begins at Molo Beverello port or Marina Piccola and includes a jetfoil ferry ride to Capri with a guide.

Upon arrival at Marina Grande, Capri's main harbor, a rowboat takes you to the Blue Grotto. Next, visit Villa San Michele and its impressive gardens, followed by free time in Anacapri, where you can shop or ascend Mount Solaro by chairlift. The tour concludes at La Piazzetta, Capri's chic main square, before returning via funicular to Marina Grande and ferrying back to Naples or Sorrento.

2. From Naples to Capri by Ferry

Boats at Marina Grande embankment on Capri Island

Traveling independently to Capri means taking a ferry from Naples, with departures from Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa ports. Choose from a slow ferry (traghetto), a medium-speed boat (Nave Veloce), or a fast hydrofoil (aliscafo/jet), with prices increasing with speed. The hydrofoil is quickest at 50 minutes, while the traghetto takes up to 90 minutes.

Fast ferries are ideal for day trips but offer less scenic enjoyment and can be rough for those prone to seasickness. Slow ferries are more economical and scenic. Tickets can sell out in summer, so arrive early or book ahead.

Ferry schedules vary, with summer services running from early morning to late evening, and reduced frequency off-season. Molo Beverello offers the fastest services, reachable by metro or the Alibus from the airport. Calata Porta di Massa, also accessible by metro, is the departure point for slower ferries and the only port for vehicle transport, though restrictions apply to non-resident vehicles outside of November to Easter.

All ferries dock at Capri's Marina Grande, where you can take the funicular or a shuttle bus into town.

Ferry Travel Tips

  • High-speed ferries may be delayed or canceled in rough seas.
  • Ferries depart every 30 minutes from one of the ports. If one is full or delayed, try the other port, which is nearby.
  • During peak season (June-August), book tickets in advance, especially for weekend travel.
